The Veterans Service Commission is a state agency dedicated to aiding Ohio veterans during times of need. There are two distinct services the agency provides:
Ohio is the only state that provides such comprehensive support and services to its veterans. Each of Ohio's 88 counties has a board of five appointed commissioners who administer the program for their respective county.
Funds for operating expenses and benefits are provided through county real estate taxes.
The purpose of the Veterans Service Commission is not to subsidize an unsatisfactory lifestyle. Rather, it's to provide temporary assistance to those who will make a conscientious effort to find a permanent solution to their financial problems.
